FAQ's

What is cold process soap?

Cold process soap refers to a method of soap-making that involves mixing oils and fats with an alkaline solution (often sodium hydroxide or lye) to create soap. Unlike some other methods that require heat, the cold process method relies on the chemical reaction between the fats/oils and the lye to produce soap and glycerin. This reaction is called saponification.

In the cold process, the ingredients are mixed together at a temperature that is not too hot, typically around room temperature. The mixture is then poured into molds, where it undergoes the saponification process over the course of several weeks. During this time, the soap hardens and matures, becoming safe and effective for use.

Cold process soap-making allows for greater control over ingredients, customization of scents and additives, and the creation of unique designs within the soap. However, it requires careful measurement of ingredients and safety precautions, as lye is caustic and can be hazardous if mishandled. Properly made cold process soap results in a gentle and moisturizing product that retains the natural glycerin produced during saponification.

Additionally, because it is made in small batches, each bar of handmade soap can be unique and tailored to meet specific skin needs or preferences. Overall, handmade soap is a great option for those looking for a natural and personalized approach to skincare.

What is Tallow?

Beef tallow, a rendered animal fat extracted from grass-fed beef, serves as a key ingredient in my skincare and soap items. Its popularity has surged recently due to its nutritional and skin-friendly qualities. Our ancestors used tallow for cooking and soap-making, capitalizing on its availability. Through boiling, purifying, and combining with lye, they created soap.

Beef tallow benefits the skin for several reasons:

- It boasts a high oleic acid content, akin to the non-essential fatty acid in human sebum.

- Oleic acid acts as a natural emollient and moisturizer, benefiting the skin in various ways.

- It supports skin regeneration and minimizes inflammation.

- Oleic acid's easy skin absorption aids the intake of other vital molecules like omega-3 fatty acids, significant for inflammation control and reducing bad cholesterol.

- The resemblance of oleic acid to human sebum facilitates the absorption of its vitamins and nutrients into the skin, locking in moisture and nourishment without clogging pores.

The Advantages of Tallow for Skin Wellness:

Tallow's nutritional richness and fat saturation levels akin to our own make it easily absorbable by our bodies. Packed with vitamins A, D, E, K, and B12, tallow products enhance skin health and appearance. Because tallow suits our skin organically, it functions as natural sebum, keeping moisture and nutrients in without pore blockage. This proves especially effective for addressing skin issues like dryness, chapping, callouses, sun damage, rashes, burning, itching, and wrinkles. Tallow soaps and balms provide essential nutrients for skin repair, with the natural oil helping retain moisture and nutrients.
